About us

Opal existed. An opal brand did not. So we started to build one.

Why we exist

Looking for an opal takes a long time

Someone who wants to give an opal ends up in one of two places. At the dealer, who pulls single stones from a drawer: each one a find, each one different, none of them set. Or at the jeweler, who does not carry opal at all, because no play of color can be reordered.

Neither helps if the birthday is in two weeks.

We mine the rough opal and cut it to a tenth of a millimeter. Only then does it fit a series that still exists next year, and it stays a stone that will not exist a second time.

That sounds simpler than it is. For a single model we need a hundred opals similar enough to pass as one series, and that quantity usually does not exist. That is why we sit in on the selection ourselves. The setting may exist a hundred times after that. The stone inside it, never twice.

The founders

We are the Kehler brothers

In 2020 Theodor watched a film on Netflix: Uncut Gems. He was 18 and, like everyone then, had a bit more time. Soon after, he held the first opal, and brought his brothers in.

What caught us was not the price. It was the universe we saw in that stone.

The same year we founded Liberty Angels in Brieselang.

Since then we go ourselves to where the stones come from: to the mines in Australia, to the cutting workshops in Hong Kong. We stand there when a rough stone is opened, and we decide what makes the journey to us. No buyers. Us.

“What fascinates me about opal is the universe. I look into it, and it is wild. And if we can now make that available to everyone, that is something.”

Every stone gets its certificate of authenticity. Where our stones are, the map on the partners page shows it.
